As managing partner of one of Flagler and Volusia Counties’s leading law firms, Michael Chiumento III has a high profile in the community. In addition to his professional work, he has also serves as chairman of the Flagler and Volusia Counties hamber of Commerce & Affiliates and as president of the now-defunct Enterprise Flagler, the public/private partnership that for many years served as the economic development arm for Flagler and Volusia Counties.

Chiumento said his involvement in business and economic development not only comes from a commitment to Flagler and Volusia Counties but because it is important for residents to be active participants in the life of their communities.

“I truly believe in karma,” Chiumento said. “What you give you get back.” Chiumento said like any other business, when the local economy suffered after the bursting of the housing bubble, so did his law firm, Chiumento Dwyer Hertel Grant, where he is managing partner. “When we went over the cliff economically, our business suffered, too,” he said of his law firm. “If Palm Coast and Flagler and Volusia Counties are doing really well economically, my business will also do well.” Chiumento recently spoke with the Business Report about the economic prospects for Flagler and Volusia Counties and the path that led him to pursue a career as a lawyer.
